DAM Features
Features commonly found in dedicated Digital Asset Management (DAM) Software.
- 7.5Uploading assets(23) Ratings
Ingestion of digital assets into a DAM platform can typically be made individually or in bulk and can occur through a native browser interface. Drag-and-drop features can streamline file ingestion.
- 8.2Downloading assets(24) Ratings
Downloads allow for role-based file conversions into multiple formats. Download settings can be configured to ensure compliance with licenses and copyrights. Assets may also be embedded into design files (like Adobe) for auto-updating other assets when versioning occurs.
- 7.2Categories(23) Ratings
Assets can be organized in drop-down menus to assist in discovery and grouped with related assets for greater utilization. Most DAMs offer AI and machine vision tagging tools to automatically recognize key data in visual elements which automatically sets tags and metadata fields.
- 8.2Asset storage(23) Ratings
Centralized storage capacity and accessibility for centralized storage of marketing and brand assets. These can be anything from documents, audio files, videos, images, creative files (Adobe, etc.), etc. Outdated assets can be archived.
- 7.9Asset sharing(24) Ratings
The ability to share and distribute assets with internal or external partners using sharing links attached to emails and messages, as well as portals. Data and assets can also be syndicated to third parties. Some DAMs enable asset publishing directly to end-user sites for more efficient distribution.
- 7.4Asset search(24) Ratings

Version tracking should also be available for assets with duplicate names, along with their usage history. Some DAMs offer integration with editing tools so that high-fidelity edits can be made outside the DAM and automatically synced back as a new or updated version.
- 7Embed codes(10) Ratings
Blocks of HTML code that facilitate the inclusion of videos from third-party sources on websites.

Reviews
(1-25 of 142)Canto Review
- Options for searchability
- Visibility of assets
- Ability to create custom structures
- Copy / paste is counterintuitive; ie, you must be "inside" a folder to copy it
- Would love option to have multiple trees open to copy paste between without excess navigation
Encanto Canto.
- Asset organization.
- Facial recognition and taggings.
- Canto Connector app with Adobe.
- UX - sometimes icons aren't intuitive.
- UX - takes a lot more clicks than necessary often.
- No keyboard shortcuts (that I am aware of).
Get your visual assets in order with Canto.
- Facial recognition.
- Identification of objects within images.
- Searching for specific images.
- Too many options for grouping and tagging - super confusing.
- Easier way to create a drop box for photos from staff.
Amazing for Organization and Time Saving!
- Categorizating.
- Sharing content.
- Facial recognition.
- Keywording.
- Search.
- Tagging
- Quick use of editable files.
- Slow upload at times.
Canto is the only DAM Solution you should be looking at!
- Facial recognition technology helps us tag key staff automatically.
- The in-tool search and tagging features are very robust, allowing us to find the specific assets we need fast.
- The AI driven auto tagging is a nice addition and helps broaden what we can look for.
- The ability for outside vendors to seamlessly upload content straight into the tool saves a lot of work for us.
- The ability to selectively share out specific assets or folders with other departments or principals is a great way to really capitalize on our assets without creating extra work for my team.
- The price point is a bit high, so I'd like to see either more features to justify that or a price drop.
- The Adobe Connector interface is functional but could be a bit more drag and drop, right now it's a little clunky, if effective.
- Right now you can't share collections between users, it would be great if we could do that for major projects rather than having to create a new album or tag.
- Facial recognition
- AI object tagging
- OCR text recognition
- The brand templates add-on is very difficult to use. It sounds great on paper, but when you actually try to use it you find out it's very clunky and limited.
- Adding fonts to style guides is difficult. Would love to see some sort of integration with Adobe and Google fonts.
- Duplicate finder only finds exact duplicates, so if a file has been run through processing of any sort it doesn't find it (ie Photoshop, Lightroom). Would be great if it could have some sort of optical duplicate finder.
Completely Canto!
- Smart Tagging
- Portals
- Customized downloading options
- Easy Uploading
- Could be easier to use
- Setup
Canto for internal documentation
- Flexible
- Very powerful search engine (almost too powerful)
- has features we can use
- Search engine not intuitive
- hard for my users to understand
- VERY poor interaction with Adobe products, which we expected to be a main reason for us to get it
Never Let Go of Canto
- Storing files, assets and images
- Sharing files, assets and images
- Allowing multiple in house users to operate seamlessly
- Export specific URLs for each photo
- Export specific metafields for each photo
- Allow more than 5 admin users without additional charge
- Allow more than 600 consumer users without additional charge
We Don't Dread Asset Management Anymore!
- Very pleased with implementation support
- Would like to see some flexibility in adding admins to existing plans
- Metadata import is sometimes messy
Poor UX/UI and poor performance makes a bad DAM
- Tagging
- Search
- Sorting
- Viewing
- Sharing
- Linking files together
- Overal UX/UI
Canto Digital Asset Management
- Organization of digital assets
- Search features and functionality
- Portals and style guides
- Visual thumbnails to see assets
- Not allowing you to upload images for thumbnails, some previews/thumbnails don't show up depending on file type so you can't see what it is without downloading it.
- The organization of assets in the portal isn't as user-friendly as the main library. It can be difficult to find something once they enter the portal.
- It would be nice to have more customization features and functionality in the style guidelines, it's very basic and doesn't look as professional as the main library.
What's more than the kitchen sink? Canto!
- Ease of uploading material
- Ubiquitous/can use in any browser or platform
- Fairly intuitive
- workflow. I still have to fumble around a bit to figure out what I want to do
The only cons I would say about Canto is that its tools are so robust we didn't need some of them but I'm glad they were there should we want to flex our muscles a bit.
Canto is great for creating targeted portals
- Separate Audiences
- Visual Search
- Resize Images
- Better communication for what the page represents (more text)
- Less file-like structure
- Ability to manage several portals and allow different users access to each.
- Ability to customize each Canto platform or portal to suit all needs.
- The platform is very easy to use, and while there are more complex components to the platform, users are able to use only the basics and remain very successful.
- Would like to see an Android app in the future.
- There are a lot of add-ons available, but most come at an extra cost. At the price we pay for the platform, I'd like to see more of these features included.
- The ability to customize folder or album URLs would be helpful.
Pretty great product, horrible service
- Search terms
- Portals
- Security
- Account management/Service
- Adobe connect can be cumbersome to use
- More live trainings
Canto keeps us organized and on brand
- Creating links to share media items
- Creating a portal for others to view specific media items on their own time
- auto tagging images
- video file management is a little more cumbersome than still images
- upload / processing of items seems slower than it should be
Canto: Asset management you can't live without.
- Search capabilities
- The app is an extra added bonus when uploading pics from mobile devices
- Never any lag time when using Canto
- Integration with Canva
- On occasion I have files fail to upload through the app.
Canto image & asset management review.
- Facial recognition.
- Public portals for sharing.
- Supports single sign-on.
- Image management.
- More intuitive user experience.
- Had upload errors when using the Canto connect.
- More customization.
I Feel Like It's Frankenstein's Monster From the 90's!
- Photo tagging
- Public portals
- Photo library management
- In my opinion, it is the worst UX I've ever seen, it's a very outdated UI.
- Lots of functions could be improved. It wants to offer a lot but, in my experience, fails with almost everything.
- I feel like there is a lack of product direction and focus.
Rarely do I like software this much, but Canto has been amazing
- Allowing users to download a resized version of an image self serve (eg. for social media)
- Sharing collections where recipients can see and download high res images
- Tagging to make searches very simple and eliminate complete folder structures
- Tag all info about an asset in the data rather than trying to name images with this data
- Seeing a path for collection images
- sometimes in an upload link the only way to return to the main library is manual adjustment of the URL
- More permission levels available.. not just Consumer or admin
Sierra Club Canto Review
- Search function
- Permissions function
- sizing
- The UX could be a bit better, it's a bit clunky
- Ability to add written or multimedia storytelling
Canto has some pros and cons
- Tags
- Portals
- Support response time
- Share links creation/customization/search
- Face detection isn't that easy to use
- Would be nice if there was an option to automatically upload files every night/sync files
- Sharing media internally and externally
- Easy to search
- Integration with MS Office and Adobe
- Would like more control of who can download media with different DRM properties
- Would like to use watermarks on some files, for only some users
Improves our creative asset development efficiency!
- Save creative files in an organized fashion.
- Make creative files easy to find with its taggable/searchable capability.
- Provides for continuity of finding creative historical files even when employee members leave.
- The tagging methodology seems VERY hard to grasp at first.
- Our team is not yet sure if we should save flattened design files or "layered" design files into Canto.
- We struggle on our team to know if we should save each draft of a file or wait until we get to a finished draft, then final draft round 1, final draft round 2, etc.
